Flatbed pays better per mile than dry van, but the work is harder and the details matter more. Tarp and securement are not free, and they should not be folded into a flat rate. We negotiate tarp pay and securement surcharges separately, on top of the linehaul, and you see those numbers before you commit. Steel and construction freight run in seasons. Steel moves heaviest in the spring and fall. Construction work follows the weather, so the South stays busy in winter while the North slows down. Knowing the seasonality helps us keep your truck pointed at the markets that are actually producing. Loads pay higher per mile than van because the work is more skilled. A 48,000 pound coil needs the right chains and the right load plan, and we respect that. Whether you pull a 48 foot step deck or a 53 foot flatbed, the loads we book fit your setup and your rules. Tarp pay, permit support, and a dispatcher who understands securement. That is the flatbed service we run, at a flat open-book price: $325 per truck per week or 4.5 percent of linehaul. Seasonal freight means you are not chasing loads that are not there. When steel is slow, construction picks up, and we route around the gaps. Every tarp and every chain is your time and your risk, and the rate should pay for both.
